4 Benefits of Routine PRP Facials

Platelet-rich plasma is a revolutionary treatment that utilizes your blood to enhance the healing effects of the platelets. Doctors use it in many aspects of your health, from wound healing to aesthetic applications.

PRP has grown in popularity among the aesthetics and plastic surgery community because of its unrivaled results in improving skin texture and reversing the signs of aging. The added benefit of a PRP facial is that it's from your own body, making it safe and minimally invasive.

Routine PRP facials are just one of the treatments Dr. Anthony N. Dardano offers at his Boca Raton, Florida, practice. Dr. Dardano is a plastic and reconstructive surgeon who offers various treatments, including PRP, fillers, and injectables, for a youthful glow.

What is a PRP facial?

Dr. Dardano uses PRP facials to reduce problematic skin issues and combat the signs of aging. There are two aspects to a PRP facial: the blood draw for the PRP and microneedling.

PRP is a treatment that involves our team drawing blood out of your arm. The blood contains red blood cells, white blood cells, platelets, and plasma. We put the tube of blood in a machine that spins the blood, separates the liquid plasma, and multiplies the platelets.

The platelets are PRP's star because they contain powerful growth proteins that aid in tissue repair and skin elasticity. When we put the PRP on your face, it helps stimulate new tissue growth free of wrinkles, fine lines, and other signs of aging.

Microneedling is how we get the PRP into your skin. During microneedling, Dr. Dardano uses a specialized tool with ultrafine needles to pierce the skin. The needles stimulate collagen production and break down scar tissue.

After he finishes microneedling, Dr. Dardano smooths the PRP preparation over your skin, allowing it to sink deep into the skin and start working. The PRP works along with microneedling to give you unrivaled results.

Four benefits of PRP facials

PRP facials, or vampire facials, are highly beneficial to many people looking to improve their skin and diminish the signs of aging. If you're unhappy with your skin, consider a PRP facial, which can give you a youthful glow. Other benefits of regular PRP facials include:

1. Improves acne scars

The microneedling we do, along with the PRP, helps to break down scar tissue. The platelets then come in to promote cell turnover, which allows new cells to form and decrease the signs of acne scars or other blemishes on the face.

2. Reduction in wrinkles and fine lines

The increase in elastin and collagen helps smooth out the skin, lightening signs of aging like wrinkles and fine lines. If you have deeper wrinkles or lines, Dr. Dardano may also inject Botox® or fillers to improve your results tenfold.

3. Improves hyperpigmentation

Hyperpigmentation and age spots happen when you age and have sun damage, leading to areas of excess melanin (the pigment in your skin). A PRP facial penetrates down into the skin, causing new skin cells to form that have the same amount of melanin as the rest of your skin. Decreased hyperpigmentation allows your skin to have a smooth, even tone.

4. Stimulates collagen production

The platelets in the PRP move directly to the skin cells, causing new skin cells to replace the old ones, stimulating an increase in collagen and elastin. Collagen and elastin are structural proteins that help the skin stay tight, toned, and smooth.

How often can I get a PRP facial?

Everyone responds differently to PRP, meaning it's difficult to tell you how quickly you'll see results or how long each treatment may last. However, seeing dramatic results from your first PRP facial often takes several weeks to months. Dr. Dardano may use a filler to help improve results immediately.

Once you see the results from your PRP facial, you may notice they stick around for as long as 18 months, as long as you continue to care for your skin. Some people get less time from a single treatment, while others get more.

Dr. Dardano discusses how often you can have PRP facials and how many treatments you may need. The American Academy of Dermatology Association suggests that most people see the best results with three or more PRP facial treatments.

You may need more or less, depending on the severity of the issues you want to correct and how well you care for your skin between treatments.
