3 Types of Abdominal Body Contouring Options: Which One is Right for You?

Body image — we all struggle with it. Like most, you probably have tried diet and exercise to help you slim down. But sometimes, even the most dedicated health regimens can leave you with stubborn fat in places you’d rather not have.

Body contouring can help remove resistant fat in areas like the abdomen, buttocks, and thighs, so you have a more appealing shape. At the practice of Anthony N. Dardano, located in Boca Raton, Florida, we provide body contouring so you can help get the perfect body you’ve wanted.

Read on to hear about three types of body contouring to help you better decide which one’s right for you.

1. Liposuction

Liposuction is one of the most common cosmetic surgeries globally and our office. Anthony N. Dardano, DO, FACS removes excess fat and reshapes your body contours for a more appealing shape by making small incisions. It does not remove excess skin, so often it is combined with other procedures for the most dramatic results.

Liposuction can be used to slim down areas like:

Although it is considered major surgery, Dr. Dardano performs it regularly and has sophisticated techniques to make it a very predictable procedure.

Candidates

Deciding to undergo liposuction is a personal decision and should only be done for you. It is important to note that liposuction is not a method for weight loss.

Liposuction might be a good option if you have a good muscle tone and firm, elastic skin. You may be a good candidate if you have a BMI of under 30 and are 15 pounds within your goal weight. Non-smokers and individuals with good overall health are the best candidates.

2. Abdominoplasty

A flat tummy is often viewed as the epitome of a healthy lifestyle. But often, lifestyle factors like genetics, childbirth, and weight gain make it hard to achieve. If you have a flabby stomach no matter what you do, an abdominoplasty may be an option to help you get a tighter midsection.

Abdominoplasty, also known as a “tummy tuck,” was the fourth most common procedure among women in 2018. During abdominoplasty, Dr. Dardano tightens your abdominal muscles while removing excess fat and skin.

There are two types of surgeries that fall under the abdominoplasty umbrella. The first, also known as a standard abdominoplasty, focuses on removing fat and skin from the lower and upper abdomen.

The second type is called circumferential abdominoplasty. This procedure creates an incision around your hips to remove the skin from not only the abdomen, but also the flanks and back. This is a great option for people who have lost a good amount of weight.

Candidates

If you like what you hear so far about abdominoplasty, you’re probably wondering if you’re a good candidate. This procedure might be for you if you are in good health but have excess abdominal skin that has lost elasticity. You should be at a stable weight you plan to maintain and have weakened or separated abdominal muscles.

3. Thigh lift

Like most body parts, your thighs change with age. As you get older, the skin shifts downwards, creating a lumpy appearance. Do you notice excess skin in your thighs and wish for a smoother shape?

Thigh lifts focus on removing excess fat from the thighs and reshaping them in a more desirable appearance. Many people who lose a good amount of weight opt for this surgery to feel more comfortable wearing shorts, skirts, and swimsuits.

Depending on your body shape and expectations, Dr. Dardano may choose one of five thigh lifts – inner, medial, mini, outer, or vertical. Thigh lifts take around two hours and are generally done as an outpatient procedure.

Candidates

People who’ve lost a lot of weight and are unhappy with the appearance of their thighs may be good candidates for a thigh lift. You must be at a relatively stable weight and have excess soft tissue in the inner or outer thigh area. Suitable candidates must be in overall good health without a health condition that may impair healing.
